Well this has been brutal. But I finally managed to get my site redesigned, and migrated to a platform that won’t suck my time away. I have traded in Drupal for WordPress. After about 4 years of trying to grok Drupal, I gave up. Compared to WordPress, it is a complete mess. In one day, I was able to achieve with WordPress what I could not in weeks and weeks with Drupal. So I am done.
I know many people love Drupal and it runs some seriously large web sites all around the world. Drupal seems to be a great platform for people who specialize in it. They can tweak it to their heart’s content. They know exactly what modules to install and how to set them up. But I just need a CMS that just works out of the box. Drupal does not. WordPress does. Wordpress’ Admin interface is such a breath of fresh air compared to Drupal 5, 6, 7. The themes are better, too. They are easier to install and easier to tweak.
Rich text editing is such a wonderful experience on WordPress. It’s clean and simple, and beautiful. Drupal, even in version 7, does not have a rich text editor that ships with core. That is ridiculous!
To be fair to Drupal, it does a lot more stuff. But the reality is I don’t need all that stuff. I outsourced my shopping cart and my support forum. I just need pages, and blog posts, and I want it to look good. And I want to be easy. WordPress fits the bill.
In the next few days I will be migrating my content from my old Drupal site over to this site. So if something is missing that you want or need from the old site just let me know and I will prioritize it.
